Dieselpunk is an embrace of historical elements to tell a new story somewhere between reality and fiction. The influences on this genre come from the 1920s to the 1950s. The age of internal combustion. As I like to say, it’s like steampunk but with more horsepower.
Inspirations
The inspirations come from the real inventions and people of the time. The Airships were insanely large structures that actually flew in our skies. Every day new machines were being invented and people stood up all over the world to break barriers. Whether its Bessie Coleman conquering the skies of Europe or Howard Hughes pushing the air speed record, humans were challenging science on every frontier.
Storytelling Through Art
I live in the space between fiction and reality. Where real history and alternate history meet. Some of my items are based on very real places, people, or events and are designed to bring that story forward. Some items I create use reality as a jumping off point to tell a new story that could have happened in between the pages of history. Patches and apparel are a great place to do this.
